Sayonara Japan!

Sayonara Japan!

Trip dates: October 24, 2016 - November 10, 2016

Eric and I are at the end of our time in Japan. We've spent the past two weeks (has it really been only two weeks?!) exploring Honshu, which is the main island of Japan. We had purchased a Japan Rail (JR) pass before our trip and it made traveling throughout the country so convenient and easy! There were only a handful of times when we couldn't use our JR Pass so I'd highly recommend it for anyone traveling to Japan and planning on going to multiple destinations in a defined period of time.

The other resource that was so essential to our travel was japan-guide.com. Seriously, go check it out. This was our go-to page for pretty much everything we wanted to do in Japan and was so helpful! Eric made a woeful comment just the other day about how we're going to travel the other countries on our list without a Japan-guide equivalent!

Here's a quick recap of where we went in Japan and our impressions (more for myself than anything else):

  • Tokyo
  • Aomori - cute port town
  • Lake Towada - beautiful autumn spot
  • Kanazawa - my favorite!
  • Hakone - ryokan and onsen
  • Kyoto - countless temples and shrines
  • Himeiji - the ultimate line ride
  • Kobe - beef. the best beef.
  • Iga Ueno - home of the ninja!

Our final day in Tokyo was a sunny clear day so we went to Mt. Takao and were rewarded with a gorgeous view of Mt. Fuji!

Sayonara Japan - it's been a great start to our journey! We'll see you again at the end of our trip. Until then, we're off to South Korea!
